Spaces and separate logins

A Space is a set of pinned tabs, folders and Today tabs with its own name, icon and colour. Use one for work, one for a side project, one per client. Favorites are shared: they stay in every Space.

Any of these creates a Space and opens its editor:

  • the + button at the bottom of the sidebar,
  • ⌃⇧N,
  • New Space in the command bar,
  • New Space in Settings › Tabs & Spaces.

In the editor, give it a name, pick an Icon (an emoji) and a Colour, or a custom one. In dark mode the colour becomes a deep tint of the same hue.

To edit a Space later, double-click its name at the top of the sidebar, or right-click it and choose Edit Space….

  • ⌃1 to ⌃9 jumps to a Space.
  • ⌥⌘→ and ⌥⌘← go to the next and previous, wrapping around.
  • Swipe sideways with two fingers over the sidebar to move one Space at a time.
  • Click a Space’s dot at the bottom of the sidebar.

Turn this on for a Space and it gets its own cookies, local storage, cache and service workers. You can be signed in to GitHub as two people, or test a site as an admin in one Space and as a customer in another, side by side.

  • In the Space editor, turn on Separate cookies and logins, or right-click the Space and choose Separate Cookies and Logins.
  • A lock next to the Space’s name shows it’s on.
  • Turning it on or off reopens the Space’s tabs so they move to the right storage.
  • Clear Cookies and Site Data… in the Space’s right-click menu signs you out of everything in that Space only.

Right-click a Space’s name, its dot, or an empty part of the sidebar:

  • Edit Space…
  • New Folder
  • Separate Cookies and Logins
  • Clear Cookies and Site Data… (when cookies are separate)
  • Delete Space…

Deleting a Space closes its pinned and Today tabs for good; they don’t go to the archive. Flecha asks first. The Delete Space button inside the editor deletes right away.

Settings › Tabs & Spaces shows every Space, its pinned tabs, folders and Today tabs in one list. Drag tabs and folders between Spaces, select several with ⌘-click or ⇧-click, reorder Spaces by dragging their headers, and search with ⌘F.

Next: pinned tabs, folders and Today.
